Ridiculous value for money. YKK zippers, 500D Cordura, and genuinely useful organisation at £23.99.

Excellent Elite Spanker MOLLE Admin Pouch Review

The name is terrible. The pouch is not.

I picked this up in September 2025 after looking for an admin pouch for my backpack. It has just under a thousand reviews on Amazon sitting at 4.7 out of 5, which is the kind of rating that's hard to argue with. At £23.99, I figured the risk was low, but it turns out there wasn't much risk at all.

Build quality

The shell is 500D Cordura, which provides a solid and structured feel. The stitching is neat throughout with nothing puckering or pulling after months of use. You realise it's definitely punching above its weight when you remember what you paid for it.

The zippers are buttery-smooth YKK's throughout. The zipper pulls are wrapped in a rubberised finish that makes them easy to grab without looking, and the double main zip means you can open from either side, a common-sense feature that many pouches lack for some reason.

The button MOLLE straps on the back have tarnished slightly over time. Some people would call that patina, and consider it a bonus. Either way it's purely cosmetic and doesn't affect function in the slightest.

Organisation

This is where it really earns its keep. Open it up and you get a genuinely well-thought-out layout across both halves. Each side has internal elastic MOLLE webbing for securing items in place, with one side consisting of 3 smaller sections, the other, 2 larger ones. This variety allows more flexibility in how you organise your gear. The zipped internal pocket provides additional storage options for loose things like change, and each side has a large, flap style pocket with no elastic, zips or velcro, which allow for larger items like notepads to slide in. The front of the pouch has a velcro-close pocket for flatter items, with 2 narrow pockets for things like pens. Across the face of the pouch is some canvas MOLLE webbing, which I didn't really ever find a good use for. I haven't really ever found a benefit of canvas webbing over elastic, besides toughness. The fixed sizing makes it too specific on what it can hold. The whole thing opens clamshell, laying fully flat so both halves are accessible at once - a must-have for anyone who values organisation.

The photo above isn't my actual carry, just a few items thrown in to show the straps and pockets in use. My real carry over the months consisted of:

  • Sofirn SP31 V2
  • Victorinox Fieldmaster
  • House keys
  • Work fob
  • Notepad
  • Pen
  • Chapstick
  • Bic lighter
  • Vulkit wallet
  • Sharpie
  • Victorinox sharpener
  • One strip each of Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, and Loratadine
  • Loose change
  • £20 note
  • Compact battery box with 2 AAs and 2 AAAs
  • 1m C-to-C cable
  • Adapters: C-to-A, C-to-Micro, C-to-Lightning

That sounds like a lot of stuff considering the size of the pouch, but everything had a place, nothing was crammed, and I never had to dig around for anything. It's amazing what you can fit in these small pouches if the organization is done well.

The front velcro panel takes patches, the branded rubber Spanker patch is included but you can swap it out for whatever you like.

Carrying options

The back has external MOLLE webbing for attaching to a bag or vest, a top loop, and a carabiner hook on the side, so there's no shortage of ways to carry it. I simply threw mine in my backpack.

Size

Compact enough to sit neatly in a backpack without taking over, but there's a decent amount of space inside once it's open. It tends to look smaller in hand than it actually is.

One thing worth knowing: it hinges along the shorter edge, so when laid out flat it's quite long. I'd personally prefer it to open book-style along the longer edge, giving a more compact footprint when open. Whether that bothers you will depend on how you use it, and some people may actually prefer the current orientation.

  • Clamshell opening gives full access to both halves
  • Plenty of carrying options: MOLLE, top loop, carabiner

Cons

  • Hinges along the shorter edge, making it quite long when laid flat
  • Button MOLLE straps tarnish over time

Verdict

I ended up moving on from this, not because of any fault with the pouch, but because I went more minimalist with my carry and switched to the Maxpedition Micro (review coming soon). If I hadn't been actively trying to downsize, I'd still be using it happily. I actually plan to repurpose mine as a first aid kit for the car, so it will still see use (alhough hopefully not much!).

At £23.99 with YKK zippers, 500D Cordura, and a layout that's actually been thought about, it's a strong buy. The name remains inexplicable.
